Shoot, duck, cover, shoot some more

The title sums up just about my entire Sunday. With a couple of colleagues from work and Bas we had a first person shooter LAN day which was altogether very, very nice. From the very beginning it was clear that sportsmanship, friendliness and love thou neighbor were not the terms that we'd hear very often that day as it turned into a classic allied vs. axis battle yesterday. And, exactly like the WWII history has proved earlier: the allied were too strong for the axis once again. :-D But this didn't happen all by itself as we had to fight quite a couple of battles for that. We started out with the classic Battlefield 1942 game but due to some colleagues having major trouble adapting to its game play we soon switched to Medal of Honor. At first I was (quite) a bit skeptical because I just didn't see the point of running around in a rather large town with only eight people. In my opinion it would turn into a lot of searching for the other team, some short intense firefights and then search some more, etc., etc. Now I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised to find out this was not the case. It went pretty well with the eight of us and there wasn't a boring or silent moment at all. For me using the sniper is one of the greatest things in those games. The classic one shot, one kill approach. My chosen victim (usually from the other team ;-) just hears the loud ‘bang', goes down and needs to choose a new respawn point to re-enter the game. Just lovely :-) Trouble is that the person in my cross hairs is not the only one who hears that bang. No Sir, just about every single player in the game hears it which makes it even more fun to do. Just shoot one, relocate, shoot the next, etc. I can do this for hours, unless I find a really good spot where I can sit for a little longer without them finding me. Over the entire Sunday I had such a spot only once, but the amount of targets I could take out did more than make up for the lack of times I could use it. Together with Bas, who drew their attention, we put down loads of them before they finally figured out where I was. Lucky for me they shouted it out when they did, so I knew it was time to move on. It was a long but very rewarding day and should there be plans on doing this again I'll make sure I'm there again too.
