The final blow

Hi all. Sometimes I start doing something and even before I begin I know it's no good. Or quite bad even. This was also the case when I started to get my computer together yesterday evening at Bas' place and get ready to go home. With the memory of my back giving up on me Saturday fresh in my mind I took extra care when disconnecting all cables and putting them in the box I use fot that loose stuff. But then the time came everything had to go in the car and while doing so I was very worried about getting it all out and taking it up the stairs back at my place. Well to say the least this worry wasn't for nothing because I died on those stairs, nothing less. God it hurt and as always afterwards I should have known better and leave the stuff at Bas' for a couple of days or so. This just wasn't a very good thing to do in my shape. This morning when I got up, or lets make that tried to get up I felt as if that ugly big truck had run me over again. When my pre-Blogger archives are up you'll know which one I'm talking about ;-) So I called work and told them I'd be at least going to be later but possibly not going to be at work at all. First I had to get me some Smarties look a like pain killers to get me through the day. When I got them and took some of them in and waited some time it felt as if it was getting somewhat better so I called work again and told them I was on my way over there. Bad choice ... but then again I'm not perfect so ...

Happy birthday Mom

And another birthday in the family: my Mom. Couldn't reach her yet so I'll phone her in the afternoon. She must be resting. She's moving so that takes up a lot of energy. Anyway should you read this mom: have a good one and lots more to come after this year, deal?

My back went out, please leave a message ...

at : 8/29/2004 02:03:00 am

Hi all. Just this night when I was re-connecting my computer wires at Bas' place my back acted up again. And it's serious this time I'm afraid. It's hurts so d*mn much, it's no longer funny. At Bas' all I could do is keep my butt in the chair and try not to move. But getting up, moving around, walking, etc. all felt like some one sticking a knife in my lower back. So now all I can do is sit straight up and walk around looking like a ... thirty two year old with a back problem ;-) I sure hope this is a temporary state because even though I have a resonable pain limit this is just a so intense type of pain that even I go down when it's going wrong. Not good. Whish me luck folks, I might need it this time,

The birthday party
Friday, August 27, 2004
at : 8/27/2004 11:48:00 pm

Hi all. No need to worry, you didn't forget mine. Tonight I went to my bro Stefan's birthday. And even though I'm not really the party going person normally, I like going to those more and more. One of the reasons I usually don't like partying at all is that I sometimes hardly know anyone who's there and because I'm not the 'hey how are you, I'm Biek and what do you do for a living' kind of person I'm pretty boring I guess. I'm Feeling easy and relaxed once I at least know who you are, but I'm quite closed up when I don't. With my sister and bro's party's that's all different, specially since their wedding. One of the main reasons was the fact that Stefan wanted me to join his bachelor party, which I not only liked very much but also I felt somehow honored in a certain way because you just don't invite anybody to your bachelor party now do you? Also on that day were a couple of Stefan's best friends whom I had never seen before but who turned out to be great guys to hang out with. I'll talk you through my version of that day some other time, back to the birthday now. Before the wedding I vaguely remember seeing one or two of them at earlier party's but then we never got much farther than 'hello, congratulations' and stuff like that. My 'problem' completely, see above ... but nonetheless not something to look forward to. But now when they entered the room, it was like 'hey Biek, how are you doing mate' and that felt good. It feels right 'at home' if you know what I mean. It's a bit difficult to explain but somehow it's nice to be remembered I guess. Maybe when I know how to explain better, I'll tell you people a bit more. Sometimes I do like party's,

Love at first drive
Thursday, August 26, 2004
at : 8/26/2004 07:18:00 am

Hi all. Yesterday evening after I got home I took her for a spin to get the driving seat in the right position, fine-tune the radio, stuff like that. The 'cruising' part (see yesterdays post, hehe, whoohoo, make way! ;-) goes well, very well even, so I'll be enjoying countless hours and thousands of miles of pure driving pleasure again, without having to pull myself out of them nasty Fiat seats whenever I'm there. Cool. About two hundred and eighty kilometers later I came home without a care in the world ... well lets just say it needed testing, or at least that's my excuse *grin* On the seats I have now I could go on for hours and hours but I'll suffice telling you that they're good. And I mean really good. When I first got that Fiat I only drove it home for about 2 miles and even then I almost weren't able to get out if it because of the ache in my lower back. Man I missed my Seat, that soon already. But not anymore baby! Yeah! Them Germans may well be weird peolple but they sure as hell know how to make good seats I tell you. Rock hard and with a firm shape so you don't roll around on them in every corner (and I do mean even the slower ones), nicely adjustable in height and angle. This is just what the doctor ordered. I tell you folks, seats don't get better than these. *GRIN* I can be so charmingly chaotic sometimes, but bare with me please. I just overlooked what I got in this post so far and noticed that I haven't even mentioned what her name is ... doh! Come on Biek, focus! LOL So here goes: She's a Volkswagen Polo, 5 door, 1.9 SDI (which must mean something like Slow Diesel Inside I guess hehe) in the Athene edition. This has nothing to do with the Olympics by the way, in case you wondered. So this means she's a little smaller than the Seat but that's only in lenght so inside it's just the same. Only more equiped and complete. She also has those very nice blue dials which are both cool and easy on the eyes. I'm in love again :-)

No more Fiat
Wednesday, August 25, 2004
at : 8/25/2004 02:17:00 pm

Hi all. It all seems so long ago since I got that wicked Fiat (from now on known as F(ar away)iat ;-) to take the place of my trusty Seat. Fiat bad, Seat good, remember? Well all that misery (and some back pain too, allthough that could easily have been my imagination I guess ;-) went away when this afternoon I picked up my new ride for long times to come. It's a relative to the Seat, hmm, we'll call her the spoiled niece ;-) She's black, has 5 doors but isn't a wagon. In the front a 1.9 liter engine is doing it's very best to propel her to unimaginable speeds but she just doesn't get to the 'oh my god' level when 'shooting' away at the traffic lights. Which is fine by me, really. Anyone knowing me will tell you that if there's one thing I like it's to just blast away and usually drive at somewhat high(er) speeds as long as there's room on the highway. With this new treasure I can only do the latter which I guess is not too bad considering I'm getting it from my boss and all. Besides most of the time I'm driving highways and pretty early in the morning so you wont hear me complaining, no not at all. Well I'm off, driving into the sunset,

Great snooker yesterday

at : 8/25/2004 07:16:00 am

Hi all. Man we played some good snooker yesterday. The score in the end wasn't nicely divided as we so often do, but the snooker itself was good, plain and simple as that. Bas had one really great frame and deserved to win that one, and I won the other four. I'm not sure I've told you guys this before but Bas and I are in the ending stage of a 'best of one hundred frames of snooker' match. We scooped the idea from his brother who did this before and I really like playing snooker this way as it's more serious snooker than we ever played before on our Tuesday's practice nights. Currently the score is forty seven to thirty two in my advantage, so in theory we could settle this the upcoming weekend. Who knows. We'll keep you informed :-) Talk to you later,

Hi all. What would you say if I were to add the period before I started Blogging in here too? I still have my memo's so it really is a clear case of copy and paste and you're really up to date from ever since I began writing some (hopefully) interesting stuff about me. Mind you that it's a somewhat different style of writing but nonetheless it's completely and all in all one hundred percent Biek writing about Biek, speaking of Biek ... Think about it, and I will too ;-)

Last weekend
Monday, August 23, 2004
at : 8/23/2004 07:31:00 am

Hi all. Well there really isn't that much to report I'm afraid. As usual I worked the Saturday, working on my dads new system. Yes he's finally taking the big step to Windows XP so nothings lost yet ;-) Then on Saturday evening I tried to beat Bas at snooker again, but didn't manage to do that unfortunately. Three frames for him versus my two means he won. The good news is that he's somewhat behind in the Best of one hundred frames competition he and I are playing so I'm not worried yet *grin* On Sunday morning I slept until somewhere around seven and couldn't sleep more than that unfortunately. Believe me I tried but I got out of bed at nine. Oh well, this way the day is nice and long I suppose. No harm done. I first cleaned up a bit (both myself and then the house ;-) and put some wash in the machine, simple household stuff like that. Then I messed with Otto for a bit, who keeps surprising me every now and then. He's still one funny bird. Crazy as can be, but they say that birds tend to imitate the ones they are around the most so that figures I guess *grin* Then I finished my own computer, which I reinstalled again. The only thing I now need is my internet back and I'm back on track. Man I miss my internet so much. It's funny how something simple like that can make such a difference when it's gone :- Biek still off-line,

Not a great start today
Thursday, August 19, 2004
at : 8/19/2004 07:47:00 am

Hi all. Man I'm not feeling well. This morning I was really late in terms of getting up and going to work. Normally I get up at about a quarter past five (early I know ;-) and leave the house about fifteen minutes later to arrive another ten minutes later at my friend Erik the Carpooler's house to pick him up. When all goes well I'm at work somewhere between half past six and fifteen to seven, which is a good time for me to get there. It's nice and quiet on the highway and we can make good time there. Besides I like early starts. Gives me some time to get myself going before the company gets going. Nice :-) This morning however I should actually have stayed in bed and if it wasn't for the fact that I'd hate to tell my friend Erik at five thirty to get himself to work without me I probably would have called work and tell them to get through the day without me. I feel a little light headed and have a slight headache. The headache part, even though it's not as frequently as before by far, is something I'm getting used to so that's no big deal. But when you stand up and the room starts spinning, well that's another story. All in all I left the house this morning at twenty past six! So I got to Erik's no earlier at half past seven and after completely ignoring some basic rules like gravity and air resistance (basic stuff like that) I was at work between five and ten past seven! I mean when the going gets tough the Fiat gets going! Jeez that little car can plough through the air like ... like ... okay okay, like a Fiat but it's still pretty amazing :-) It's almost (neh, just kidding *grin*) a shame I won't be driving that car for long anymore. There finally is a different car available, and I should have that one in a matter of weeks. Whish me luck for today,

2010: Space ...
Tuesday, August 17, 2004
at : 8/17/2004 06:53:00 am

Hi all. Hehe, I hear you thinking: poor guy, he didn't get his ADSL up yet and watched both the 2001 and 2010 Space Oddities to get passed another evening. Well not exactly. One of the main reasons once wanted internet in the first place is that I like pictures. Preferably crystal clear wallpaper sized pictures of for example sports and other cars, motor bikes, airplanes, screenshots of games, etc. You can't beat the internet for getting good shots of everything you like. Oh and yes there is the occasional photo model also, because you just can't browse one Google page without getting across one or two. Not that I mind terribly of course but sometimes you're just after that one good shot of a Gulf Ford GT40. And when you finally find it there's some girl lying on the nose ... life's tough :-) When I'm browsing for pictures I save all the ones I want to save in a default folder to sort them out later on when there's time. This hasn't been done for a couple of weeks now and when I looked yesterday I had no less than ... yes you guessed it: 2010 pictures to browse through and sort out. Can you imagine the space that takes up? Yeah I know and a small 'wow' escaped my mouth also, trust me. So I fired up my trusty ACDSee and when that nifty little program was done getting the thumbnails ready (which took the bugger about 32 seconds ... :-) I started with sorting out the lot. When I finished (my movie was beginning so ...) I had gotten half way so there is some sorting out to tomorrow also. I guess this is the time to do these things as usually it just takes up too much time. The movie I watched was Crimson Rivers and strangly enough it began at eighteen to ten last night. What a silly time to begin a movie I hear you think and I agree. The only thing I can think of is that it had something to do with me pressing play on some remote control unit ... *grin* Anyway it was quite a good movie (well it's mine so it shoold be I guess) with the French actor Jean Reno as the main character, who's characters I normally like very much. And in case you wondered: my internet is still out. But I'm getting passed the evenings nicely so far. 'Oh my god, it's full of stars ...'

One monsterranking coming up
Monday, August 16, 2004
at : 8/16/2004 07:20:00 am

Hi all. Imagine this: it's Saturday evening and you're wondering what's for diner. Well here is a recipe for a nice, well done, race weekend menu :-) So what you need for this go smoothly? Please check all that you think apply: [ ] At least two nifty gaming rigs with all the tweakings, couple of steering wheels, big/huge screens, big volume speakerset, that sort of stuff :-D [ ] A LAN setup, preferably with internet connection for uploading lap times (but only if they are any good of course) [ ] A day and a half of Grand Prix Legends fun (I estimate that is was about ten hours of racing in total during this weekend) [ ] A couple of tracks [ ] A number of racing cars (hmm, better make that a lot, as we've crashed out several times) [ ] Lots and lots (and lots) of laps [ ] Some more laps [ ] All of the above *grin* During just about a day and a half you cook the whole lot to a nice tasty stew and there you go: a well done race weekend :-) This was a classic. It's really been (too) long ago since we've been racing this much in one race weekend. And all we touched this time was Grand Prix Legends, not even any of other great sims we have. Man I enjoyed myself big-time, and I'm sure Bas did too. As usual we were not far appart, no matter what car we got in, no matter which track we drove one. Exept for the Nurburgring because I just couldn't get my Lotus to go round there. Must have been a little too late I think, can't think of any other excuse ... yet ;-) Meanwhile we also took a look at the computer of Bas his parents and that one is back on track now too, so all in all we had a very nice and worth while weekend. I'll explain the Monsterranking in the title tomorrow, as duty calls right now. Due to some colleagues being on holliday we're getting some hecktic moments over here. Of course that's not the only reason it can get hecktic but I won't go into that here ... You know who you are ;-) See you tomorrow,

Life without the internet
Friday, August 13, 2004
at : 8/13/2004 08:04:00 am

Hi all. Day two, and counting ... Well folks to tell you the truth there actually is life possible without the internet :-) Not that I would mind for it to come back (at all doh!), but I have found out that I can get through the night without it. Yesterday I finished Starwars part V (The empire strikes back) and took VI (The return of the Jedi) along for the ride. So the classic trilogy is finished now. On to the two Starwars DvD's I have and then it's time to either have my internet back or change the theme a bit :-) The thing is that I just don't want to have watched my entire video and DvD collection by the time I get my internet back. They add up to a total of about two hundred seventy five or so movies so at two movies a night that would mean no internet for the rest of the year almost ... :-| Hope it's back soon,

Inter-not
Thursday, August 12, 2004
at : 8/12/2004 07:18:00 am

Hi all. The next couple of days (I hope) I'm not having internet at home. Since the heat was turned up my modem was acting up every now and then but since yesterday evening it's not acting at all. This means that the only internet I'm left with is at work. Not that this is a very bad thing and I'll live through it, but I won't be on-line in the evenings for some time unfortunately. So yesterday evening I smacked my Starwars IV - A new hope tape in the VCR and enjoyed one of thé classic science fiction movies. It just never gets boring that movie, truly great. After part IV I made a start with V but there must have been a dull moment because at about twenty past one I woke up, tape was done, TV only showed static and the tape had rewinded to the beginning ... Because at that moment I could feel just about every bone in my back, shoulders and neck I went to bed and tried to get a couple of hours of sleep before the alarm clock would wake me. Tonight I'm getting in earlier, because this wasn't the best of nights as you might be able to imagine. Use the force Luke,

I'm such a lucky b*stard sometimes
Wednesday, August 11, 2004
at : 8/11/2004 07:09:00 am

Hi all. Ever have that feeling? You wake up, look around and suddenly see what you have forgotten to do the evening before? Well I did this morning. That was a very quick wake up procedure, I tell you. Normally when I get home from work the first thing I do is boot up my PC, get some coffee and let Otto out so he can fly around somewhat when he feels to. Forgetting this last part results in some ferocious squeaking from Otto behind me, kindly reminding me that when I'm home, the door should be OPEN! With this warm weather I usually first let Otto loose until it gets a bit cooler outside and then open the balcony door and bedroom window so I can get the heat out. Otto however does not always come out directly nor does he stay out until he's to go back, he's just as happy in his 'home' as he is out of it. Yesterday when I got home from a night of snooker I opened the balcony door again to get some fresh and cold air in during the night and went to bed almost straight after. This morning when I woke up my hart almost stopped when I saw that I had forgotten to close Otto's door when opening the balcony door! Both of them had been open for the entire night!. If he had decided to go and 'look what's behind door number three' he would have been gone forever. It's not that pet birds might not want to come back, but they're simply not able to find the way home again. Otto however was not very impressed at all by my sudden friendliness and happiness to see him and just stayed where he was: on the little swing, his favorite place in his home. He just looked at me as if he was thinking 'come on mate, it way to early to be that exited, come back in the afternoon and we'll talk about it' ... Funny cool little green creature that bird is, and I'm so glad he didn't all of a sudden went missing overnight. Thanks for sticking around Otto, you're a real pall :-D

Biek wins Dutch Grand Prix
Monday, August 09, 2004
at : 8/09/2004 07:03:00 am

Hi all. Har har, yes you did read that right: it was me, and I did it in quite a nice way if I say so myself :-) The track was Zandvoort, one I like very much for two reasons. One of them obviously is the fact that I'm able to drive it very well, but I guess that's a property that makes just about every track a nice one :-) And the other is the fact that Zandvoort has quite an easy layout and therefore is pretty easy to learn. To go fast there is another story, but that's normally just a matter of putting in the laps. Practice, practice, practice. And then practice some more *grin* It began with me taking the pole position during the practice session so I was on the right side of the front row. El nummero uno so to speak. Even though it wasn't my absolutely fastest time there by far, it sure was enough to be ahead of the others this time. Hehe, 'eat my dust!' he cried out loud ... When the green flag dropped the crying was still there but changed pitch somewhat this time because the two cars next to me and even almost one behind me were gone before I knew it. D*mn my pole vaporized like snow in the sun. Gone in 0.3 seconds ... So I dived into turn one number three ... grrr ... bugger! Their tire brand must be Pattex or something like that. Well no harm done just yet. You never, ever, win a race in turn one and there were still 14 laps of happy motoring fun ahead of us so they better step on it! Just need to keep my head cool (in this heat!? Argh ...) and take back what was rightfully mine: P1. Since I was on pole I should be faster in lap times than any of them so it should merely be a matter of time before I was to catch up and get my P1 back. Easier said than done, especially since you start the race on cold tires (doh, I know) so before you can really open up the throttle you have to wait a couple of laps ... no really, you do ;-) Wait. Well it took me about five laps to get things 'heated up' but then I was right behind a chap named Hill ... And I mean right behind him. The serial number of his transmission is #37816 ... LOL This tailgating continued for a couple of laps and then the three of us were coming up on the first back markers. Both Clark and Hill decided to wait until they could easily pass him but I saw a gap and just went for it. That worked and poor mister Hill was now demoted to P2. That'll teach him, taking my position. Next one on my list was Clark who could do nothing but watch as I found another gap and passed him too, just a couple of corners away from where I overtook Hill. Back in P1 baby, yeah! Now it was just a matter of flooring it and create a gap between me and the other Lotus' as they were not likely to make a mistake and would be knocking on my backdoor quite soon again. At some point I managed to make it about fifteen seconds and then I suspect they finally passed the BRM that was holding them up ... amateurs! Whahaha. The flooring bit was easier said than done as I'm much better in closing a gap than I am in creating and maintaining one but in the end it was me who won with a mere 2 seconds lead on Clark. They say winning is winning and that's what I did so you'll never hear me complaining. It was a very nice race and in the first couple of laps (the gap closing event) I managed to put in the fastest lap of the race also so in the GPL News that comes up afterwards there was a whole lot of Biek being mentioned :-) Round and round we go,

Nice weekend after all
Wednesday, August 04, 2004
at : 8/04/2004 12:11:00 am

Hi all. Even though this weekend started off with that Saturday's heat (yup, we're passed warm now ...) and all, not making me the happiest person alive to say the least, the last part (day 2) was pretty good again. This afternoon I went to my sister and bro again to chat up a bit. Since they went on a long race weekend (not like the ones we use to have btw) I didn't see them so I wanted to watch their home made video. Their race weekend consisted of going to the Grand Prix of Hockenheim live, you know in Germany and all, so that's obviously very, very cool. Then in the afternoon we all went to watch Spiderman II in the cinema, which I think is a nice movie. Loads of little jokes, great effects, cool action and for someone like me who read just about all of them Marvel comics when he was young it's like looking at a near perfectly rendered 3D cartoon. I just love these 'new' Marvel comic movies that are coming out. Stuff like the Hulk movie, both Spiderman movies, and a new Batman coming up soon always makes me looking forward to cinema visits. I just hope I can make it because my cinema visits have been drastically low over the past months. Anyway right now it's still to hot to do much else then wait for the coolness to return so I'll keep it at this. Cool weekends are better,

The good news is that this means more space for actual reading ... doh!
